The Sea Scape

July 5, 2020

by Hagar Harpak

Ocean foam and sea scape poem

And so the seascape is her hiding place

Concealed within the waves of life’s washings

(and dryings)

Hiding as the foam

Crashing into shore

Whispering secrets through the drops

And the dripping wetness of a sea creature

Daughter of the universe

And no one knows

Mother of it all

The suit of seduction knocked off by the titan storm that left her gasping for air

Or water

Unknown

Not yet seen

And no longer seen

Beating heart behind invisible cloak

Of a siren no longer there

Though her laughter tells stories of past ships she has wrecked

And her tears of loss

Heard wailing at the night sky

Unknown

Unseen

Queen

Of the underworld of the sea

Of the whispers of storms heard from beneath the surface of the ocean’s skin

Coiling in the deep, dark bottom

Beneath the veil of twinkling shadow

She embraces the new phase

As she cackles with the silence of the fish

Where is she?

Where are you?

Where are we?
